The introduction of the Reformation under King Gustavus Vasa in 1527 was led by the brothers Olavus and Laurentius Petri (both of whom had studied at Wittenberg under Luther). Olavus Petri led in producing sermon books, handbooks on revised church practice, a simplification of the Mass in Swedish, a translation of Luther’s Small Catechism (1537) and of the entire Bible (1541), a hymnbook, and more besides. Laurentius Petri became the first Lutheran archbishop of Uppsala in 1531.
