Kenya

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenya was started in 1948 by some missionaries sent by the Swedish Mission of Bible True Friends. The first missionary from Sweden to Kenya was Rev. Martin Lundstrom, whose vision was to start mission work in all parts of the country. He started schools and dispensaries alongside the congregations. The church was organized with an interim constitution in 1958 when also the first candidate for the ministry was ordained after studies at Makumira Lutheran Theological College in Tanzania.
