The Christian Lutheran Church of Honduras grew out of the mission work of North American missionaries. In the 1950's, they established small Lutheran congregations in Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula and three other rural settlements. In addition, there were Lutherans among the Salvadorians who migrated to Honduras in search of land to work, and in 1960 a pastor from El Salvador began visiting them. The majority settled near Juticalpa, the capital of the Department of Olancho. In 1983 the Christian Lutheran Church of Honduras was legally established.
